1. In regard to type, it is used to state the size of the type. The ''point size'' of the type is measured from the bottom of the descender to the top of the ascender. There are 12 points in a pica and 72 points in an inch. 2. When using in regard paper, it is the measurement of the thickness of the paper. 1 point equals 1/1000 of an inch. The thickness of 10 pt. stock would equal 10/1000 or 0.010 in.
