An animated GIF is a series of single GIF images stored in
a single GIF file that when displayed, simulate motion. It can achieve motion
much the same as a film or video, with each single frame of the animated GIF
being slightly different than the one that precedes it, which achieves the illusion
of movement. Several unrelated images may also be used that give the illusion
of a flashing logo or movement within a banner ad. Animated GIFs are one of
the most popular animation formats because the file sizes are smaller than that
of other animation formats. It is also supported by nearly all Web browsers.
The frames below, show how movement can
be used in a company
logo by adding one element at a time to each of the frames.
