The Portable Job Ticket Format (PJTF) provides a means for storing control information that isn't related to the content of the document and also a means of storing the job history. It is similar in structure to the PDF format. The separation of content and processing information provides more flexibility. The PJTF may store the following:

• Page processing instructions such as imposition and trapping
• Output instructions such ad resolution and screen angles
• Media information such as size, weight, type, etc.
• Finishing instructions for folding, trimming, etc.
• Scheduling information
• Delivery
• Customer information

PJTF allows the PDF to be more functional. The job ticket is independent of the PDF content to keep the content and job instructions separate, but the PJTF information can be embedded in the PDF if necessary.
